Chinese Crested Dog Picture

At any Chinese Crested Dog picture, you’ll see a very strange looking dog. These dogs are very small, elegant, and refined. They are easy to recognize by a long and narrow muzzle, large almond-shaped eyes, and large erect ears. This breed is characterized by hare feet (long toes.) The main hallmark of the breed is partial hairiness. Actually, there are two coat varieties within the breed: the Hairless and the Powderpuff. The Powderpuff has a common long and silky coat with a dense undercoat, and the Hairless variety has an uneven hair distribution.

Many Chinese Crested Dog picture galleries feature dogs of the Hairless variety, because they are the most interesting representatives of the breed. Such dogs have long flowing hair only on certain parts of the body and the rest of the body has no hair at all. Usually, Hairless Chinese Crested Dogs have hair on the top of the head (crest,) on the feet (socks,) and on the tail (plume.) Some dogs have hair on the muzzle and ears. In this case, they need trimming for a neater look. Hairless areas are soft and smooth. Some Hairless dogs are only called Hairless, while actually, they are covered with long hair all over the body. It’s a variety of the expression of the hairless gene, but not a mix of two breed varieties. The only difference between “hairy hairless” dogs and Powderpuffs is lack of undercoat in the Hairless variety.

Both varieties of the Chinese Crested Dog need considerable amounts of care and grooming. Powderpuffs should be brushed frequently to avoid matting; Hairless dogs are prone to skin problems and also should be brushed, shaved, and trimmed for a stylish look. In Chinese Crested Dog picture galleries, you can see that all show quality dogs are trimmed and brushed thoroughly.

As for typical health problems of the breed, the Chinese Crested Dog is free from many congenital disorders found in most toy breeds. Still, this breed cannot be called very healthy. The Hairless variety is prone to poor dentition (missing or crowded teeth, teeth decay) and “primitive mouth.” Some dental problems can even be seen in a Chinese Crested Dog picture.
